9th Place – London Borough of Enfield
The London Borough of Enfield claimed first prize in the 2015 LNYDP Borough Competition with their entry ‘Under Your Own Steam’.
This year Enfield enlisted the help of the Saint Monica’s Players, a local performing arts group that have worked, and continue to work alongside Enfield Council producing pantomimes, musicals and theatre productions. The North London Borough found inspiration in the Victorian era of Circus entertainment, which proved to be a fitting topic for our 2018 theme, ‘Showtime – Roll Up, Roll Up to the Greatest Show on Earth‘.
The world of pantomime, theatre, Circus and musicals provided an entertaining mix for the 650,000 spectators that lined the streets of Westminster. The Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Christine Hamilton, joined in the celebrations alongside the other performers, helping the Borough to be voted 9th best in 2018, netting a total of £2000 in prize money. The prize money will be paid directly into the Mayor’s Charity Fund, which ensures every penny will be going towards a very worthwhile cause.
The Saint Monica’s Player are already working on their next musical production Monty Python’s Sir Spamalot. For more information about all forthcoming productions, you can log onto their website. – www.smptheatre.co.uk
