10th Place – London Borough of Merton

Since their first place finish in 2013, the London Borough of Merton were looking for their next LNYDP success.

2018 proved to be their lucky year, as they landed a 10th place finish, winning £1000 for the Mayor’s chosen charities, which include Merton Mencap and Commonside Community Development Trust. The Borough’s entry, ‘Nature – The Greatest Show on Earth‘, drew inspiration from World famous nature presenter, David Attenborough, celebrating the unique insight he has gifted us into the natural World.

The entry featured a variety of fantastic, giant creature puppets and a larger than life size model of Attenborough himself! The brilliant performance wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of Wimbledon College of Art, supplying the performers and Links Park Primary School, recording a tailor made song for the parade. Volunteers from both charities were also on hand to make their entry a truly special sight to behold.

On behalf of everyone at London’s New Year’s Day Parade we want to congratulate the London Borough of Merton for their winning entry!
